I shouldn’t

I shouldn’t think about your hand on the back of my neck

drawing me in

Or the push and the pull

of our breathing

or holding breaths to slow down the time,

saving air for trembling exhales

The exhales, my favorite

when our lips hover

in momentary restraint

and then give in

and I am like melting butter

all over your body

Anyway, I shouldn’t think about these things

Because we already agreed

Now is not our time
